Longhorns put the clamps on Husker offense

No. 5 Nebraska’s potent offense couldn’t get rolling against a stingy Texas defense as the Longhorns knocked off the Huskers, 20-13.

Nebraska managed just 202 yards of total offense after entering the game averaging 494.4 yards.

The Longhorns held quarterback Taylor Martinez to 21 yards rushing. His passing total of 63 yards wasn’t helped by numerous drops by backs and receivers.

Nebraska lost just one of its five fumbles, but it was costly, leading to a three-yard touchdown run by UT’s Garrett Gilbert to give the Longhorns a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.

Nebraska answered with a field goal early in the second period to cut UT’s edge to 10-3. But the Longhorns responded with a 78-yard TD drive to make it 17-3, and that’s all the points they would need.

Gilbert kept the Blackshirts off balance with his legs, running for 71 yards on 11 carries. He entered the game with just 14 rushing yards on the season.
