Huskers Blank UT-San Antonio, 17-0

Lincoln
- Third-ranked Nebraska celebrated its highest ranking in 19 seasons with a 17-0 whitewash of Texas-San Antonio Tuesday evening in front of a crowd of 1,091 at Buck Beltzer Stadium.

Senior first baseman Dan Johnson and freshman right fielder Drew Anderson combined for eight hits and 11 RBI, as Nebraska (31-8) won its sixth straight game and was victorious for the 14th time in the last 15 contests.

Anderson went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer, the first of his career, and set career best in both hits (four) and RBI (five), while Johnson tied career highs in hits and RBI with a 4-for-5 effort with six RBI, including RBI singles in each of the first three innings, as NU led 10-0 after three innings cruised to the win.

The Huskers scored in every inning, but the fifth in a contest shortened because of the mercy rule. The 17 runs tied NU's season high set on March 16 against Centenary, as five players scored two runs or more, including three from Adam Stern, Matt Hopper and Johnson. Junior catcher Tito Rivera also joined in the offensive outburst, going 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth.

Junior R.D. Spiehs picked up the victory, allowing two hits through the first five innings, to improve to 5-2 on the season. The right-hander allowed only one runner, lead off hitter Brette Parrish, to reach second all evening, as the Husker defense turned a pair of double plays in the win. Freshman Dustin Timm and junior Jeff Blaesing each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout, the Huskers' second of the season and first since Feb. 18.

Hunter Wenzel (0-2) took the loss for UTSA, allowing eight runs on six hits in two innings, while the Roadrunners, who fall to 22-25 on the season, committed five errors in the losing effort

The Huskers and Roadrunners conclude the two-game series Wednesday afternoon beginning at 1p.m. The game will be broadcast by campus radio station KRNU (90.3 FM) and over the internet at krnu.unl.edu.
