Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player, Pitcher of Week

DALLAS- Alex Gordon (Nebraska) and Steve Guerra (Oklahoma) and Scott Richmond (Oklahoma State) have been selected as Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player and Co-Pitchers of the Week in voting by a of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played March 22-28. Gordon has received back-to-back Player of the Week honors (hirst first two ever) while Guerra and Richmond shared pitching kudos in their first career recognitions.

Player: Alex Gordon, Jr., 3B, 6-1, 205, Nebraska (Lincoln, Neb.) Gordon earned back-to-back player laurels after playing longball in NU's two wins in three Big 12 contests at Kansas and a 6-3 triumph over
Western Illinois. In the conference series he went 4-for-9 (.444) with three homers and four RBI to complement a 1.444 slugging percentage in the road activity. He walked seven times in four games (six vs. the Jayhawks) and ended the week 5-for-13 with five total RBI. He had a two-homer game against KU (his second multi-HR contest of the season) while raising his Big 12-leading circuit clout total to 10. Gordon also maintained a tie for hitting leadership in the conference with Texas Tech's Cody Fuller at .429 in overall games.


Co-Pitchers: Steven Guerra, Jr., 6-1, 195, Oklahoma (Paso Robles, Calif.); Scott Richmond, Sr., 6-5, 223, Oklahoma State (North Vancouver, B.C., Canada) Guerra pitched a complete game while allowing just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in a 2-0 shutout of Texas A&M. Guerra held the Aggies to a .109 average for the game (3 for 29) as the Sooners went on to take the nightcap 3-2 to notch a doubleheader sweep and the series advantage (2-1) last Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Okla.

Richmond led OSU to a series win over nationally-ranked Baylor with a complete game performance last Sunday in his first start after 11 relief appearances. The senior had a one-hit shutout for 6 2/3 innings before then-No. 9 Baylor broke through with a couple of runs. Richmond allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk in improving to 2-1 on the year. Foe the week he appeared twice, pitched 10 innings, yielded six hits, struck out eight, and walked one while lowering his Big 12-best hitters allowed average to .132.
