Huskers Fall at Kansas State

Manhattan, Kan. ----- Nebraska shot a season-low 31.1 percent from the floor and watched Kansas State use an early 10-2 run in the second period to pull away for a 77-53 victory here Wednesday.

KSU (11-6, 2-2 Big 12) hit 51 percent in the second half while outscoring NU 44-33 to win its ninth straight home contest and even its record in conference play. The Huskers fell to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Nebraska kept pace in the first half has the Huskers trailed by only five, 33-28, at the intermission following a Jarrett Hart three-pointer as time expired to end the half. Hart’s trey was one of seven on the night for KSU, who entered the game as one of the top three-point shooting teams in the conference and nation before being limited to 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from downtown.

Freshman guard Jason Dourisseau kept Nebraska afloat in the opening frame, scoring all 11 of his points before the intermission. It was Dourisseau’s fourth double-figure scoring effort of the season, as he hit 3-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Dourisseau had all 11 points during a eight-minute spurt, as he was all of NU’s offense while scoring nine straight points starting with just under nine minutes off the clock. Dourisseau was the only Husker hitting shots until Nate Johnson drained a three-pointer with 2:43 left in the period. Following a Brennon Clemmons steal, Johnson then pulled the Huskers within one, 29-28, on a jumper.

Following the intermission, KSU’s Matt Siebrandt continued his hot hand from the floor, hitting back-to-back layups to start a 18-6 run. Siebrandt finished with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor, while Gilson DeJesus had 17 points and seven rebounds. KSU’s Pervis Pasco added a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, as the Huskers were outrebounded, 41-35, for the third time in four conference games.

Johnson finished with a team-high 13 points while leading the Huskers in rebounding (6), assists (3) and steals (3). Guard Corey Simms continued his solid play, hitting 4-of-8 shots from the floor for eight points, with six rebounds and one blocked shot.
