Huskers Rally From 10-Point Halftime Deficit to Defeat UCSB, 60-57

Nebraska postgame notes:

** Junior forward Andrew Drevo collected his fourth straight double-double, as he finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. It is the first time an NU player has reached the mark since 1998-99 when Venson Hamilton had four consecutive double-doubles.

** Drevo led the team with four blocked shots, setting a season high. Drevo had two assists coming into the game, with one each against Alaska-Fairbanks and Minnesota.

** Sophomore Corey Simms had a career-high four assists, to go along with seven points and one steal, before fouling out late in the second half.

** Nebraska came from behind at the half to pick up a victory for the first time this season. Nebraska had trailed at halftime in three games this season, and lost each contest. The most NU had trailed during a victory this season had been one point against IPFW, before trailing by 12 early in the second half of tonight’s game.

** Nebraska now owns a 2-0 record in the series against UCSB, after taking a 75-55 victory in the first meeting in 1978. NU is now 23-9 all-time against teams from the Big West Conference.

** The Huskers allowed a season-low 17 points in the second period, the fewest points by an NU opponent in any period this season. The previous season low was 18 points against Centenary in the second half of the season opener.

** NU held ASU to 21.4 percent shooting (6-of-28) from the floor in the second half, marking the fifth period this season Nebraska has held an opponent to under 30 percent from the field.

** Nebraska had a team season-high 18 assists, bettering its previous season best of 17 assists against Minnesota. Drevo led the way with a season-high six assists.

** Tonight’s game marked the fifth time this season NU had hit at least 45 percent from the floor, as the Huskers finished by connecting on 45.1 percent (23-of-51) for the game, including 47.8 percent (11-of-23) in the opening period.

Head Coach Barry Collier quotes:

“We didn’t feel good about our first-half defense. We knew going into the locker room that we had to do a better job, and in the second half we had a great defensive effort. We had some doubts and questions about our defense in the first half, mostly about guarding the triple penetration better and staying down on shot fakes.”

“They got off to a good start in the first half and got some confidence. We came back out in the second half and put the same starters out there and tried to begin another game. They came out and responded and got us back into it, closing the gap.”

“Jake (Muhleisen) was much more patient today and his three-pointers started to fall. He competed well and drove the ball well inside. He took care of the ball in a number of situations on the whole. I also thought that Jason Dourisseau did a nice job and Wesley Wilkinson did some good things. Nate Johnson struggled a bit tonight, but some others picked us up. Andrew Drevo also did some nice things to help us again.”.
