The Huskers ran right into one of the best teams in the country this weekend. To see the national exposure, and all the excitement that goes with it, come back to Lincoln was tremendous for NU and the future growth of the program. But the Huskers ran into a heck of a team.
The reality is there is still quite a ways to go before the Huskers are back into discussions as part of the elites. And Ohio State, now at #2 in the USA Today coaches poll, shows the model for Coach Frost and team to aim for.
There are at least two parts of the test that the Buckeyes presented. First was the game itself, and the areas of improvement in play, recruiting, size, and speed that are needed for the Huskers to keep moving up the ladder.
The other part of the test is how does the young Frost program respond to this thumping? Do they put this one in the rear view mirror, learn the lessons, and turn the pain of the loss into fuel for these next few very winnable games?
