Huskers Fall to No. 25 Missouri

Lincoln – Andrew Drevo posted his fifth double-double of the year with 24 points and 14 rebounds, but a cold-shooting half doomed the Huskers in a 63-56 loss to No. 25 Missouri in front of a crowd of 9,075 fans at the Devaney Center Wednesday evening.

Drevo, a 6-8 junior from Lincoln, finished 8-of-19 from the floor, including four three-pointers, to lead Nebraska. But the Huskers shot a season-low 30.9 percent from the floor, including 22 percent in the second half, in falling to 9-10 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12.

Junior Nate Johnson joined Drevo in double figures, scoring 14 points and dishing out three assists, while John Turek added nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks in the loss. The trio combined for 47 of the Huskers’ 56 points.

The Huskers got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 15-4 advantage as NU opened the game with a 9-0 run in the first 4:22. Drevo led the charge for the Big Red, scoring NU’s first seven points, including a four-point play, as he finished the half with 12 points.

The Tigers used a 7-1 run to cut the Husker advantage to 17-11 after back-to-back baskets by Ricky Paulding, but Missouri could not get any closer the rest of the period. The Tigers shot just 34.5 percent in the half, including 2-of-12 from three-point range, as the Huskers took a 31-22 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Huskers extended their lead to 36-26 on Drevo’s fourth three-pointer of the game with 18:20 left, but Missouri (12-4, 3-2) began to take control.

The Tigers ran off a 23-5 spurt over the next 11:01, taking their first lead of the game at 41-40 on a Ricky Clemons basket with 12:37 remaining. MU extended the margin to 49-41 with 7:18 remaining, but Johnson, who missed nearly four minutes because of an injury, scored five quick points, putting NU within striking distance at 49-46 with 6:37 remaining.

The Huskers cut the margin to 51-49 after a Jason Dourisseau jumper with 4:32 remaining, but could get no closer. MU went on a 9-2 run, capped by Josh Kroenke’s three-pointer with 1:30 remaining, to give the visitors a 60-51 lead.

Arthur Johnson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead four Tigers in double figures.

The Huskers return to action this Saturday, Feb. 1, when they play host to nationally ranked Kansas. Tipoff for the contest, which will be televised nationally on ESPN, is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
