Huskers Fall to No. 25 Missouri

Nebraska postgame notes:
** Nebraska falls to 1-3 against ranked teams this season, including 1-2 at home. The loss drops NU to 7-3 at the Devaney Center this season.

** Junior forward Andrew Drevo had his first double-double of the Big 12 season, when he collected 24 points and 14 rebounds. Drevo now has a team-best five double-doubles on the season. It was also Drevo’s third 20-point game of the season, while his rebound total was one off his career high of 15 against IPFW on Dec. 15

** Drevo scored the Huskers’ first seven points of the contest, including a conventional four-point play at the 17:13 mark. Drevo went on to tie his season high with four three-pointers. He also had four treys in a victory over No. 20/17 Minnesota on Dec. 8.

** Junior guard Nate Johnson has scored in double-figures in every Big 12 game this season, the only Husker to do so. Johnson had 14 points against Missouri despite missing a stretch of nearly four minutes in the second half with an injury.

** Sophomore forward John Turek finished the game with four blocks, just one off his career high of five. Turek nearly had his second double-double of the season as he finished with nine points and eight rebounds.

** Senior guard Brennon Clemmons finished the night with a pair of steals and now has had at least one steal in five straight games, including four with at least two steals. Clemmons also finished with a season-high four assists.

** Nebraska limited Missouri to just season-low 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from three-point range tonight. The Tigers entered the game hitting 38.7 percent from downtown on the season. It marked the 10th time this season the Huskers held an opponent to less than 30 percent from three-point range, and the fourth time NU has limited its opponent to less than 20 percent from downtown.

** Tonight’s attendance of 9,075 is the second-highest figure at home this season for the Huskers.

Nebraska Head Coach Barry Collier
Opening statement:

"It was really a hard-fought game. We started out decent intensity-wise, and had a good first 20 minutes of defense. Missouri just did an excellent job countering in the second half."

On the second-half shooting tonight:
"I talked with the team at the end of the game, and really there wasn’t any good excuse for our poor shooting average in the second half. It’s not that we were taking bad shots, we were just defended very well by our opponent. That was our biggest problem in the second half of the game."

On the Huskers’ character tonight:
"Our guys showed really good character out on the court. They never once stopped fighting during the game. They played as strong of a first half game as they have any other time this season.

"We’re naturally disappointed in the loss, but with the strong character this team has shown, I fully expect them to get out there and have a strong fight against Kansas on Saturday."

On the play of Andrew Drevo:
"Drevo was a lot more aggressive in this game than he has been in the past (few). We’re trying to get him to understand and take more free shots from the perimeter. Our guys are doing a good job from the inside. Now, I’d like to see Drevo take about six three-point shots during the game. He did a nice job of moving around and the team set a lot of good screens."

Forward Andrew Drevo
On NU’s second-half performance:

"We got good, open looks in the second half. We just had some bad bounces and the ball didn’t fall. You need to give Missouri credit though, they played some good pressure defense against us tonight."

On playing a better perimeter game:
"We need to keep teams honest on the perimeter to eliminate some pressure from Turek on the inside. I’ll do whatever the coaches want me to do, so we can get some wins."

Guard Nate Johnson
On second-half injury

"I was going for a rebound and got tripped up a Missouri player, who ended up falling onto my shoulder."

On NU’s second-half shooting troubles
"We got decent looks tonight. We just need to stay focused and go to practice and try to get better every day. As a team, we just need to keep battling and things will get better. We need to keep playing hard."

Missouri Head Coach Quin Snyder
On the second-half defense:

"Our defense made some adjustments quickly and stopped chasing screens all over. We definitely had a more solid defensive effort in the second half."

On staying together after poor start:
"Nebraska came out and got a quick jump on us, but our guys did a good job of staying together. We played hard and worked as a team to get the job done that we needed to."

On learning each game out:
"We are a very young team. We have to learn from these games and all games. We have reverted back to letting our defense do the work. Offensively, we had five turnovers in the second half, but they were all on offensive fouls."
